Large universities with great infrastructure fascinate me a lot. I kind of get overwhelmed by thinking about how much contributions they have made to society. But at the same time, I get disappointed that they are not functioning to their true potential.Visit any Govt University and most of Private Universities, and you'll see what the quality of education there is. Students don't have practical knowledge of their fields even after 4-6 years of Education. It hurts. I fear the same is happening to CA studies where now some unqualified teachers are teaching core subjects of CA without having any practical knowledge. Non-practicing CAs are teaching the most practical subject, only based on cramming. We have and will be left behind the world.P.S: I might be wrong. Feel free to share your opinion.

Word limits in grants can be comical. Look at this prompt for 150 words:"In this election year, let’s say you are the new Education Secretary for the United States, and you have unlimited resources and complete decision making power to redirect the workings of education in this country. How might you as Education Secretary impact greater education improvement in the United States?"

Higher education continues to promise 18-year-olds that any degree is the cornerstone of economic prosperity. They are grossly under-delivering on this promise. A significant challenge college students face is the possibility that their degree might not lead to employment that requires a college education. Currently, only around 50% of individuals with a bachelor's degree find a job that necessitates a college education within a year after graduating. To make things even more disturbing, college graduates who are initially underemployed out of school remain underemployed 10 years after graduation on average (*source - Strada Education Foundation & The Burning Glass Institute). Fields in business that require a strong foundation in math, like accounting, have notably higher rates of employment in jobs requiring a college degree compared to management, human resources, and marketing fields.Graduates with a degree in accounting are more than twice as likely to be employed out of school than many other general business degrees and a whopping 76% of accounting majors are employed immediately after graduating. If you know you want to study business, your head is already in the right place, but I implore you to niche down even further. Accounting is the only business degree that facilitates the opportunity to differentiate even further by obtaining a LICENSE.This license that I speak of is called the "CPA license" and it will allow you to provide services that nobody else LEGALLY can. Your college "advisors" are going to advocate for "doing what you love" or "following your dreams", but for example, I love baseball, but I am a terrible baseball player. I'm cool with following your dreams but do it later. Check out Universal CPA Review's most recent interview with KRQE News on this topic

Higher education continues to under deliver on its promise, but accounting remains consistent..

Contemporary Challenges Facing Higher Education:*******************************************************In the current landscape, Higher Education finds itself struggling to adapt to the dynamic demands of the business sphere. The rapid evolution of industries far outpaces the ability of traditional academic programs to incorporate these advancements into their curricula. The swift proliferation and accessibility of information have rendered formal degree programs less imperative. Short-term certificate programs, spanning from three to twelve months, now offer comparable earning potential to conventional college degrees spanning two to four years. This begs the question: What rationale exists for investing an additional four to six years and lot of $$$$$$ Loan in tertiary education when a high school graduate can attain full earning potential while concurrently honing their skills on the job?A fundamental reevaluation of the Higher Education paradigm is imperative. It must transcend the mere attainment of degrees and evolve into a lifelong pursuit, seamlessly interweaving learning with professional practice. However, it must be noted that contrary to this perspective, Higher Education remains as pertinent as ever. In the age of technological advancement, where routine tasks are increasingly automated, there arises a pressing need for profound and creative cognition to shape the future of various fields, including accounting and finance. At the apex of Higher Education qualifications lies the PhD, epitomizing the augmentation of existing knowledge with novel perspectives. Many seminal innovations, such as the internet, have sprung forth from the crucibles of academia, exemplified by its inception at CERN labs. The landscape of professions like accounting is undergoing a profound transformation, with regulatory shifts challenging the erstwhile monopoly enjoyed by practitioners. Consequently, the academic trajectory towards becoming an accountant is swiftly evolving in tandem with changes in legal frameworks. While other disciplines like Law, Engineering, and Medicine have witnessed heightened rigor, the journey towards professional accounting is now perceived as a midpoint rather than a culmination. The pinnacle of this journey lies in the attainment of a PhD or a Professional Doctorate of Practice, representing the next zenith to aspire to.

Australia’s Education Ministers have just announced the establishment of an Expert Governance Council to develop new university governance principles. See https://lnkd.in/g-KCZ6dJ. This is a very much needed initiative. The NTEU (National Tertiary Education Union) has long identified several concerns, such as exorbitant Vice-Chancellor salaries compared to international standards, University Council memberships (e.g. few have Indigenous members), systematic underpayment of staff (see https://lnkd.in/gcuC6k9S for the latest instance), and executive overspending (see https://lnkd.in/grBJaRFp for two examples). One of these examples of executive overspending – the installing of a private bathroom for a Vice-Chancellor – is particularly egregious as their university appears to justify or distract from this matter by stating it was built by an Indigenous business. While organisations need to engage more with Indigenous businesses, they should not use these relationships to justify or distract from their behaviour. This is an example of ‘performative’ reconciliation.
