Character skills are key for improving your character in Escape from Tarkov. They will change how your PMC moves, deal damage, how much stamina they use, and several other bonuses. If you want to have a few bits of help while going out in a Raid, you should definitely pay attention to them.

This IGN guide will tell you everything you should know about character skills, including how many there are and how you can raise them. Check the quick links below:

How Character Skills Work

If you go to the tab “Skill” on your Character menu, you’ll notice there are dozens of icons and bars. These are your character skills, and they are part of a useful feature in the game.

Character skills are basically perks and stats bonuses that work all the time once you have at least reached Level 1 with any of them. They are passive boosts, meaning that you don’t have to activate them in any way in order to use their bonuses.

Some kills will affect specifically how fast you can move, how effective the items you consume are, or how you will use different types of weapons. There are dozens and dozens of skills that will improve your character as you level them up.

To do so, you need to do certain actions while playing the game (more about this in the next section). They can be done by both Scav and PMC characters, but keep in mind that most will be easier to do with your main character. For example, landing shots on an enemy can get hard when playing as a Scav as you’re not supposed to shoot any other Scav — and PMCs will have far stronger gear than you.

You’ll receive a notification on the bottom right corner of the screen when you’ve leveled up a skill. However, you can check the progress of all of them in the aforementioned tab (Character -> Skill).

Please note that all of your skill levels will be restarted when the next wipe takes place. To know more about this, please check our guide.

The Complete Character Skill List

There are six categories of skills in total in Escape from Tarkov: Health, Mental, Combat, Practical, Special USEC, and Special BEAR. However, you’ll see only five of them depending on the character faction you chose when you started playing.

Below, you can find a table with all of the skills available in the game, including what they do and what you need to do in order to increase their level.
